Position: Extended School Year Behavioral Interventionist

Behavior Intervention Specialist

Provides direct and specific behavior intervention services to students with developmental disabilities using Applied Behavior Analysis techniques to teach functional skills and develop positive behaviors needed to function more independently in the school setting.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provides intensive behavior intervention in the area of appropriate school-related behaviors to students individually and/or in a group situation;
  • Implements Applied Behavior Analysis techniques when working with students and is able to train other staff members on the implementation of techniques;
  • Provides prompts to assist student in preventing and managing behavior;
  • Assists in the implementation of students' Individual Education Plan (IEP);
  • Attends school IEP team meeting concerning assigned students upon request;
  • Participates in appropriate training, workshop, and in-service programs;
  • Works with students with a variety of moderate to severe physical, emotional, and learning disabilities and may work with an individual student or groups of students, both in a separate classroom facility or facilitating inclusion into a general education classroom;
  • Assists students in a variety of educational supports which may include but not limited to: instruction, socialization, personal hygiene, medications and physical therapy, nutritional, toileting and related personal tasks as needed;
  • Assists general and special education classroom teachers by preparing, modifying, and adapting classroom presentations and materials to assigned students;
  • Assists teachers with clerical duties including, but not limited to, copying, inputting records and data into a computer, text and document preparation, and related duties;
  • Assists with student supervision on field trips and related extracurricular activities;
  • Assists the special education teacher with compiling behavior data and input to complete behavioral assessments and to develop and implement behavior intervention plans/programs;
  • Collects and reports progress data to supervisor;
  • Assists teachers with paperwork and documentation of services provided.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Ability to:

  • Prepare and maintain required records, files, reports, logs, statistics, Medicaid billing and documentation;
  • Operate classroom instructional equipment;
  • Perform basic office tasks including keyboarding, copying, and filing;
  • Perform time management and scheduling functions, meet deadlines, and set task priorities;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers and staff members, and other District personnel;
  • Maintain a calm personal demeanor and remain focused in situations of high stress;
  • Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality;
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner;
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Maintain student, school, and parental confidentiality;
  • Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks;
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures and safety practices;
  • Follow written and oral instructions and observe District policies and procedures;
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Certified as a Habilitative Intervention Professional or have been employed by a school as a certified Intensive Behavioral Intervention (IBI) Professional prior to July 1, 2013 or;
  • May have an Exceptional Child Certificate or an Early Childhood Special Education Blended Certificate;
  • Bachelor degree in psychology, social work, education or related human services field;
  • Classroom or other instructional experience; and
  • Experience in the implementation of Applied Behavioral Analysis; and
  • Experience in the development and implementation of positive behavior intervention programs/plans;
  • Experience in collecting and using data;
  • Must be willing to become trained in and maintain current certification in Mandt.
