Position: CTE Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor for 26.27 School Year

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Instructor

Swan Falls High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) department is seeking a dedicated, student-oriented Part-Time CNA Instructor.

In this role, you will guide high school students through the Idaho state-approved 120-hour curriculum, blending classroom instruction, laboratory skills practice, and supervised clinical rotations. We offer scheduling flexibility—this position can be structured as a single-semester or a full school year depending on availability.

Instruction & Delivery:
Teach the state-approved Idaho Nursing Assistant curriculum, ensuring students clock the mandatory minimums (80 hours classroom/lab, 40 hours clinical practice).

Skills Lab

Coaching:

Demonstrate and assess essential hands-on care skills (measuring vital signs, infection control, transferring patients, personal care).

Clinical Supervision:
Accompany and supervise students during their mandatory 40 hours of hands-on clinical rotations at local, state-approved long-term care facilities or hospitals.

Exam Prep:
Prepare students to successfully challenge the Idaho Nurse Aide Competency Exams (Prometric written and manual skills evaluations).

Classroom Management:
Maintain a safe, structured, and professional laboratory and classroom learning environment mirroring real-world medical facilities.

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Licensure:
    Active, current, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Idaho.
  • Clinical

    Experience:

    Minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse.
  • Long-Term Care

    Experience:

    At least one (1) year of experience in caring for the elderly or chronically ill in a nursing home, long-term care facility, or hospital setting (per Idaho Department of Health and Welfare instructor requirements).
  • Instructional Certification:
    Idaho Career and Technical Education teacher certification

Candidates coming from industry who qualify for certification based on their industry experience will be placed on a limited certification and have up to three years to earn their standard certificate while teaching. This process requires completing some training or post-secondary credits connected with the Idaho State Division of Career and Technical Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Successful experience working with students in a classroom setting that includes varying ability levels, including at-risk students.
  • Provide instruction to all students using a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Committed to collaboration with counselors, administrators and other teachers on student needs and highly effective instructional practices.
  • Accommodate implementation of special services (IEP, 504) when applicable.
  • Participate in staff meetings, staff projects and professional staff development.
  • Commitment to a team approach in all aspects of educational programming.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and students.
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Perform such school-related duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
  • Be knowledgeable of, and uphold all policies pertaining to teachers and students as specified in district rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter competencies and/or skills to be presented to students.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students to the extent possible.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students within the limits of resources provided by the district.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate these objectives to students. Upon request of the immediate supervisor, show written evidence of preparation.
  • Use instructional materials adopted by the district and employ methods that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Follow prescribed safety regulations.
