PurposeUnder the general direction of a district’s Student Information Systems Lead, the Student Information Systems Specialist exercises independent judgment and is responsible for supporting the evaluation, coordination, implementation, customization, training and software support of the District’s Student Information System (SIS) and related software.
Performance ResponsibilitiesThe primary function of a Student Information Systems Specialist is to assist in a variety of support tasks in the operation and maintenance of the SIS for the benefit of the school district. This employee is responsible for supporting the user interface, data input quality, reports, security, training, and documentation for all student information system services including but not limited to registration, scheduling, and reporting software.
In addition, the employee should have the capacity to effectively generate, analyze and report data, and have sound operational knowledge of the overall functionality of the SIS. The work is performed under the general direction of the Student Information Systems Lead and reports to the Chief Information Officer, with latitude granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Further, this position works with the Student Information Systems Lead to help various clients as required for SIS implementation and troubleshooting, as well as maintains data input standards and documentation, and assists in analysis and iterative improvement activities associated with SIS software and related technologies.
Additionally, this position will assist with Elementary Student Information System training. The primary duties of this class are performed at the district office for the benefit of district business offices and classroom environments.
- Serves as SIS support by entering, summarizing, analyzing, and reviewing data for accuracy to produce standard, custom, and confidential reports.
- Serves as an escalated tiered resource to resolve issues involving SIS software and integrations with district adopted curriculum.
- Works closely with the Student Information Systems Lead, System Administrator, and Site Technology staff to maintain the operability of the SIS software.
- Works with Student Information Systems Lead to evaluate third party software to enhance SIS functionality.
- Assists with training school and district related staff including but not limited to registration, scheduling, and student information software.
- Assists with school level liaisons on software updates, training updates, documentation, and support issues.
- Works to accurately input, maintain, reconcile and report data to school system business owners.
- Ensure system is configured to support student federal, state, and district report compliance, and assist in the process to validate and provide data to district subject matter experts.
- Follows district grade reporting calendar timeline to implement the registrar operational tasks, progress reporting process, grade reporting process, and transcript process.
- Provides information to the public, teachers, and other employees regarding policies, regulations, school activities, and rules.
- Maintains accurate files and records related to registration and student records.
- Attends SIS software and state training sessions on a regular basis.
- Makes recommendations for changes in procedures to ensure the consistency of data entry in SIS software for maintaining data quality.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with K-12 student information systems, school finance, state reporting data collection, or other relevant database systems.
- Oran equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience.
- Ability to analyze data in excel.
