The Retail Sales Representative is responsible for selling Caterpillar Equipment, technology, and/or services value while driving market share growth and maintaining Western States Equipment’s top quartile rankings with Caterpillar. This position is a trusted consultant to our retail customers when making equipment buying decisions. Duties include execution of sales processes and strategies in selling dealer support and machine performance to new and existing customers within the assigned region.

This role builds and maintains customer relationships with owners, principals, and stakeholders to provide solutions in initial investment and continued usage of Caterpillar Equipment and the products and services of Western States Equipment. The Retail Sales Representative role is to execute sales and grow market share at a fast pace in the retail sector.

The In Store Sales Representative is a trusted consultant to our retail customers when making equipment-buying decisions and is responsible for selling Caterpillar Equipment, technology, and/or services value while driving market share growth and maintaining Western States Equipment’s top quartile rankings with Caterpillar. Duties include execution of defined sales processes and strategies in selling dealer support and machine performance to new and existing customers within your assigned region.

The Inside Sales Representative role executes sales and grows market share at a fast pace in the retail sector while spending the majority of time in the office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Safety

  • Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a leader and team member, ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintains clean and clutter-free personal work areas to ensure safe environments for all employees.
  • Adheres to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.
  • Drive and maintain a company vehicle.

Customer Service and Sales Strategies

  • Identifies and calls on customers and potential customers of Caterpillar for new, used, or traded equipment within the assigned territory.
  • Maintains call quantity and quality to build positive relationships with each customer.
  • Develops and maintains skills to sell premium-priced products and maintains knowledge of Caterpillar and Western States products.
  • Identifies customer needs to develop effective solutions using Caterpillar Equipment and Western States services.
  • Advocates and influences additional offerings from Western States that complement Caterpillar Equipment; collaborates with Product Support, Cat Rental Store, and Engine Group.
  • Maintains high velocity and quick response times to ensure positive customer experiences.

Communication and Cross Functional Teamwork

  • Conducts product presentations to customer groups and operators.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and latest machinery technology offerings.
  • Upholds integrity, quality, and responsiveness to customer needs across Sales, Service, Parts, Worksite Solutions, and Rental.
  • Communicates needs and concerns of territory stakeholders to ensure resolution.
  • Understands and uses offerings from Cat Financial or other finance companies.
  • Adheres to all customer care standards.
  • Supports corporate vision, mission, and values; promotes other division priorities (e.g., CVA, Digital Adoption, Technology Activation, Extended Coverages).
