Position: INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICIST/ OCEANOGRAPHER/ MATHEMATICIAN

Summary

You will serve as an INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICIST/ OCEANOGRAPHER/ MATHEMATICIAN in the Ocean Projects Department (N9) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties
  • You will have knowledge of advanced concepts, theories, and principles of acoustic and ancillary data analysis.
  • You will have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and and in writing.
  • You will have the ability to serve as the senior physicist/oceanographer/mathematician during field operations.
  • You will have the ability to work in Microsoft Office.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications GS-13

In Addition To The Basic Requirements For This Position, Your Resume Must Also Demonstrate At Least One Year Of Specialized Experience At Or Equivalent To The GS-12 Grade Level Or Pay Band In The Federal Service Or Equivalent Experience In The Private Or Public Sector. Specialized Experience Must Demonstrate The Following:

  • Experience evaluating alternatives, developing and implementing solutions, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting on results.
  • Experience interacting with nationally known scientists to gather data and information in support of command objectives.
  • Experience executing acoustic data processing and analyzing acoustic data management in standard deep water and non-standard shallow water acoustic environments.
  • Experience creating detailed graphics in ARC-GIS OR ACR-GIS Pro and manipulating complex codes in MATLAB.
GS-12

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience resolving acoustic numerical modeling problems and validating ambient noise, transmission loss, and reverberation measurements.
  • Experience implementing unique and special purpose data sets that support non-standard shallow water acoustic and geophysical modeling objectives.
