Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Physical Therapy

The Department of Physical Therapy at Mississippi State University Meridian invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

As a founding faculty member in the developing hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, the successful candidate will contribute to curriculum delivery, development, assessment, and continuous improvement while supporting the program's mission, vision, strategic priorities, and accreditation requirements. The department is particularly seeking candidates with demonstrated clinical and academic expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, Acute Care Physical Therapy, Neurologic and Neuromuscular Rehabilitation, Pediatric Physical Therapy. Candidates with board certification, advanced clinical specialization, residency/fellowship training, or a strong record of teaching and scholarship in these areas are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will participate in teaching, student mentoring, curriculum development, scholarship, service, interprofessional education, and community engagement while helping establish a contemporary, evidence-based DPT program that prepares graduates for practice across broad healthcare settings.

Teaching and Curriculum Development
• Teach didactic, laboratory, hybrid, and/or online courses within the DPT curriculum.
• Develop instructional materials and learning activities that promote clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice, professional behaviors, and patient-centered care.
• Integrate contemporary frameworks, including the biopsychosocial model, interprofessional practice, and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), throughout instruction.
• Participate in curriculum planning, assessment, and program evaluation activities.
• Contribute expertise to the development of specialty coursework and clinical integration experiences in cardiopulmonary, acute care, neuromuscular, and/or pediatric practice.
• Assess student learning and provide timely formative and summative feedback.

Scholarship
• Establish and maintain a scholarly agenda consistent with university and accreditation expectations.
• Engage in research, scholarly dissemination, grant development, quality improvement initiatives, or other scholarly activities.
• Mentor students in scholarly projects and evidence-based practice initiatives.

Student Advising and Mentoring
• Serve as an academic advisor and mentor for DPT students.
• Support student professional development, leadership, and lifelong learning.
• Foster a collaborative and student-centered learning environment.

Service and Community Engagement
• Participate in departmental, college, and university committees.
• Engage with professional organizations and community partners.
• Assist with student recruitment, admissions activities, and program outreach.
• Contribute to the development of healthcare partnerships and clinical education relationships throughout Mississippi and the surrounding region.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
• Physical therapy degree from a CAPTE-accredited program.
• Doctoral preparation is required.

Licensure
• Current physical therapist license in Mississippi or eligibility for Mississippi licensure within six months of employment.

Experience
• Demonstrated expertise in cardiopulmonary, acute care, neuromuscular, pediatric physical therapy, or a combination of these areas.
