Field/Service Technician
The Role
Quidel Ortho is seeking a Field Engineer I in Jackson, Mississippi. This field‑based position offers a company car, gas card, cell phone, laptop, and covers all vehicle maintenance. The role covers customers throughout the state of Mississippi.
Responsibilities- Installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, and modifying electromechanical equipment, preferably in the field.
- Troubleshooting technical problems and system issues.
- Determining technical solutions according to product and customer specifications and recommending actions to company or customer representatives.
- Conducting technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements.
- Assessing customer needs and recommending solutions in accordance with product specifications.
- Providing technical training and product briefings to customers, vendors, and company representatives; acting as a local on‑site representative.
- Managing territory responsibilities, including preventive maintenance, upgrades, software and hardware.
- Handling parts management, online training, and administrative expense reporting.
- Performing other work‑related duties as assigned.
- Education: Associate’s degree in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent 4 years of military or field service experience.
- Experience: Minimum 4 years installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, and modifying electromechanical equipment, preferably in the field.
- Team player, self‑motivated, interacts appropriately with peers, sales counterparts, and customers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Technical knowledge in electro‑mechanical, chemistry, computer, and related disciplines, applied effectively to job functions.
- Ability to manage workload within allotted time constraints.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Extended hours may be required.
- Travel: Ability to travel overnight 50‑75 % of the time to Rochester, NY during initial training; post‑training travel up to 75 % with occasional overnight stays (1‑2 nights per week).
- Not eligible for visa sponsorship.
- Experience with in the healthcare or medical device industry.
- Internal:
Field Engineer I, Senior Field Engineers, Area Service Engineers, Regional Service Managers, Area Service Directors, Sales, and technical specialists. - External:
Customers, including laboratory managers and supervisors.
Typical hours include overtime; work is autonomous with occasional field travel by airplane, train, or automobile. The position requires a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle suitable for travel.
Physical DemandsRegular use of hands, feet, and visual functions; standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and occasional kneeling or squatting. Must be able to travel up to 75 % of the time and lift up to 75 lbs.
