About the Agency

The goal of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety is to make Mississippi a safer place for the state’s three million residents. Our employees perform a variety of tasks, including issuing driver’s licenses and firearm permits, patrolling our roads and highways, keeping drugs off the streets, providing training and certification to law enforcement agencies, conducting forensic analysis and investigations, and much more.

This work involves administering oral, written, and skill driver’s license tests for the Department of Public Safety to applicants seeking a Class R or Class A, B, C, and D driver’s license, learner's permit, identification card, or information for motor vehicle records (MVR). Incumbents are also responsible for vision screening of applicants, renewing, and reinstating Mississippi driver’s licenses. Responsible for updating records/files in the database system and administering firearm permits.

The work is performed in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the administrative officials of the department. Supervision is usually received from a driver’s license district supervisor, and work is reviewed based on daily activity and reports. This job opportunity is in Driver License Services in MADISON COUNTY, MS is a Customer Service Representative supervisory position. The incumbent participates in the work of all staff involved in customer service activities within a specific area or function. At this level, incumbents represent the agency to internal and external stakeholders in a customer service function and intervene when necessary to address and resolve customer-related needs or issues.

Employees gather and analyze data related to the quality and performance of customer service employees and processes and recommend policy changes as necessary. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning, and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. In addition, employees will be expected to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen to train, supervise, and evaluate staff, and evaluate processes and make policy recommendations.

Also, prepares daily reports of licenses issued and monies received. Compiles, analyzes, updates, verifies, and disseminates data from various agencies, the public, court departments, and other sources; and promotes these sources to maintain the exchange of pertinent information among other state records. Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
