Provides direct and indirect patient care in the hospital setting under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. As appropriate, communicate with the supervising Registered Nurse about changes in the patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.

Required – currently enrolled in an Associate, Baccalaureate or Diploma pre‑licensure nursing program of an approved nursing school or graduate of an undergraduate Associate, Baccalaureate or Diploma nursing program within twelve (12) months of their first unsuccessful attempt at the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX‑RN) examination.

Required – Must have successfully completed at least one hospital‑based clinical rotation or must be within twelve (12) months of their first unsuccessful attempt at the NCLEX‑RN examination.

Required – Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

• The nurse intern may perform procedures and/or tasks for which they have been educated and cleared by and/or by graduation from an accredited or state board approved pre‑licensure nursing education program.
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Organizational skills.

• Completes accurate patient assessments and treatments, reports pertinent findings, and takes appropriate action.
• Administers medications and treatments as ordered under the direct supervision of the registered nurse.
• Evaluates patient response to medications and treatments and documents outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Evaluates patient care through systematic assessment of patient outcomes.
• Answers call lights and assists patients with personal hygiene and other activities of daily life (ADLs).
• The nurse intern will update the nursing care plan in the EMR per hospital protocol and as needed.
• Assists in admitting, discharging, and transferring patients alongside the assigned Registered nurse.
• Performs other duties within their scope of practice as listed on the Student Nurse Intern Skills List.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
