Position: RN - Nursing Supervisor - Medsurg/Telemetry - Full Time - Nights

Overview

This job acts as a supervisor and provider of care at the point of care to individuals and cohorts of patients within a unit. The supervisor evaluates nursing interventions by coordinating, delegating, and supervising care provided by licensed nurses, registered nurses, and patient‑care technicians. The supervisor serves as a resource for staff for patient‑care assessment, planning, and evaluation of nursing interventions and facilitates problem resolution through collaboration with unit leadership and other supervisory staff.

The supervisor identifies staff strengths and weaknesses and evaluates staff performance for team members within their span of control.

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Science of Nursing (BSN) required for all Ochsner Magnet Facilities.

Experience
  • Required:

    1 year of relevant experience as a registered nurse, OR 2 years of experience as an LPN in an acute care setting.
  • Preferred: 2 years of relevant experience as a registered nurse.
Certifications
  • Required:

    Current registered nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

  • Excellent time‑management skills and ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and remain objective and professional.
Job Duties
  • Administers medications, starts IVs, and coordinates discharges with the healthcare team.
  • Organizes, plans, supervises, and provides coordinated patient‑care within the unit.
  • Supervises, develops, and evaluates assigned departmental staff nurses and technicians.
  • Promotes adoption of nursing protocols and clinical practice guidelines to support evidence‑based practice.
  • Manages conflict on assigned shifts and collaborates with other supervisors and unit leadership when further action is needed.
  • Collaborates with patient quality, safety, and experience leadership and promotes patient quality, safety, and experience processes.
  • Supports daily clinical operations on the unit by ensuring effective scheduling, staffing, and appropriate clinical supplies and resources are available for patient care.
  • Adapts communication style to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and ensuring clear explanations of services and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical & Environmental Demands
  • May require lifting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds frequently; may also involve light work such as walking, standing, or pushing and pulling objects.
  • Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and potential communicable diseases.
  • Risk exposure to hazardous medications or waste during preparation, dispensing, and disposal of contaminated waste.
