Job OverviewMechanical Railcar Repair Technician – 1st Shift. This position works with CF Rail Services to deliver high‑quality railcar repairs quickly and safely.
ResponsibilitiesRepair various types of railcars, including mechanical work, grinding, cleaning, and touch‑up painting.
Set up and operate hand and power tools (air arc, plasma cutting, huck machines, oxy‑fuel, etc.) and perform heating and cutting processes.
Operate and maintain equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, cranes, skid loaders, heavy‑boom cranes or hydraulic booms.
Document work performed on work orders and record additional repairs.
Maintain a high quality of work and comply with CFRS quality assurance program.
Keep the work area clean and orderly to comply with CFRS, OSHA, and environmental rules.
Contribute to team effort and conduct activities consistent with core values, fostering a positive environment for communication, empowerment, and continuous improvement.
Learn and adhere to all CFRS safety procedures and industry logistics practices.
Wear appropriate PPE in all required areas.
QualificationsEducation / Formal Training (preferred):
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and experience. One to three months related experience and training also acceptable.
Pass the following courses with an 80% or higher score coordinated by CF Rail Management: FRA Freight Car Safety Standards.

Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching at various heights up to 20 feet; lifting, carrying, and setting up equipment up to 50 lbs.
Medical certification required to wear respirator and ability to wear respirator for prolonged periods.
Operate electrical and pneumatic tools, heavy equipment (cranes, jacks), forklifts, mobile service trucks, and boom lifts.
Work EnvironmentPerformed outdoors and indoors in all types of weather around heavy equipment. Exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate to loud noise. Overtime and varied shifts may be required.
