Mechanical Technician - 2nd Shift

Position: 2nd Shift Mechanical Technician2 – CF Rail Services (Railcar Repair Technician). This role is responsible for repairing a variety of railcars and performing welding tasks to meet company standards.

• Perform mechanical railcar repair in accordance with Mechanical Railcar Repair Technician1 functions.
• Contribute to team effort and complete related tasks as needed.
• Pass CFRS welding procedures (FCAW T2, 3/4" plate all positions).
• Utilize AAR job codes, AAR Rule1, and inspection gauges.
• Diagnose problems based on defect symptoms and document findings.
• Operate or drive equipment: forklift, manifold lift, crane, backhoe, skid loader, hoist, or hydraulic boom.
• Adhere to workplace safety and PPE requirements.

• High school diploma or GED (preferred). Completion of courses: AAR Interchange Rules, Freight Car Inspection Overview, Basics of Railroad Wheels, FRA Railroad Safety Appliance Standards, Coupler & Draft Systems, Freight Car Trucks, Body & Truck Side Bearing Gaging & Adjustment.
• Score of 80% or higher on each course.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and shop operating software.
• Excellent customer service, communication, teamwork, and listening skills.
• Ability to read technical procedures in English.
• Basic mathematics and reasoning skills.

• Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, crouching for prolonged periods.
• Handling equipment or components up to 50lbs and climbing ladders to 20ft.
• Use of respirator for extended periods.
• Operation of welding equipment, electrical and pneumatic tools, heavy equipment, and forklifts.

• Indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Exposure to wet or humid conditions, moving parts, fumes, airborne particles, moderate to loud noise.
• Potential overtime and varied shifts.
