Position: Speech Language Pathologist (26-27 School Year)

This position is for the  school year and will be placed in one of our schools depending on need. Salary is based on the adopted salary schedule for the 24-25 school year at this time (starting salary= $44,200). Our SLPs are paid on the teaching salary schedule, but contribute to the PEERS retirement system.

We accept all previous years in certificated teaching roles as steps on the salary schedule. The Fort Osage School District prioritizes a highly competitive salary schedule, with additional benefits including optional fully paid health insurance, career ladder stipends (up to $5,000), extra duty stipend opportunities and more. New teachers mentor program available for all first and second year teachers.

Must hold a valid Missouri Speech Language Pathologist Certificate or hold a valid license through the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred.

Purpose Statement

The job of Speech Language Pathologist is done for the purpose of identifying students with communication disorders; and planning and implementing appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success.

Essential Functions
  • Assesses students' communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for services.
  • Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, administration, team members, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues and providing services in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g. testing, screening, IEPs, parent conferences, etc.) for the purpose of presenting evaluation results, developing IEPs, and/or providing training to parents/students/staff.
  • Develops and implements IEPs, evaluation reports, interventions with eligible students for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with local, state and federal requirements.
  • Facilitates and participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. training, IEPs, team meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.
  • Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Interprets medical reports within the scope of Speech and Language Pathologist's experience for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring therapy/intervention plans are appropriate.
  • Maintains confidential and non-confidential files and/or records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening results, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, required documentation, data collection, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' needs.
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, teachers, staff, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or referral as appropriate.
  • Serves as LEA at IEP meetings for the purpose of providing and/or gathering information.

    Responsibilities include:

    working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to effect the organization’s services.

    Work Environment

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
