Location: North Merrick
- Provide direct speech and language services to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable federal and New York State regulations.
- Assess students’ speech, language, communication, and related needs through formal and informal evaluation procedures.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and instructional activities based on students’ identified needs and IEP goals.
- Provide individual and/or small-group therapy targeting areas such as articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, social communication, pragmatic language, and functional communication.
- Monitor, document, and report student progress toward IEP goals and make recommendations regarding continued services and interventions.
- Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings, annual reviews, reevaluations, and other student-related meetings as required.
- Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, counselors, psychologists, administrators, paraprofessionals, related-service providers, and families to support student success.
- Consult with classroom teachers and other school personnel regarding strategies and accommodations to support students’ communication needs within the classroom and school environment.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including evaluations, progress notes, service documentation, IEP-related information, and other required records.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding students’ progress, needs, and recommendations.
- Identify and implement appropriate accommodations, modifications, assistive technology, and/or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies when appropriate.
- Support students in applying communication skills across academic, social, vocational, and community-based settings.
- Participate in multidisciplinary problem-solving and intervention processes for students experiencing academic, behavioral, social-emotional, or communication-related difficulties.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, district policies, and professional standards.
- Maintain professional knowledge and skills through professional development, training, and collaboration with colleagues.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the building or district administration.
Full-Time (1/2 Year Leave Replacement) Speech and Language Teacher
- Split between two high schools
- Half of School Year until1/29/2027.
- Appropriate NYS Certification Required
- C's Certifications Preferred
