The Accounting Clerk plays a key role in supporting accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining employee timekeeping and payroll data. This position partners closely with Payroll and Human Resources to ensure proper employee payment and compliance. In addition, the Accounting Clerk contributes to the overall efficiency of the accounting function by supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activities, and identifying opportunities for process improvement.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and monitor employee timecards to ensure accurate coding and compliance with company and union requirements
  • Verify employee data including new hires, terminations, time entries, and supervisor adjustments prior to payroll processing
  • Provide backup support for payroll processing as needed
  • Partner with Human Resources to maintain accurate payroll records and ensure proper employee payments
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee wages and payroll‑related information
  • Assist with accounts payable, including processing and coding vendor invoices
  • Support accounts receivable activities such as invoicing and payment application
  • Assist with credit card transaction processing and reconciliation
  • Provide support across additional accounting functions as needed
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel to perform timecard and payroll reconciliations
  • Review financial data for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify and recommend improvements to workflows and processes
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and union contract requirements
Qualifications and experience include, but are not limited to:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior experience using Microsoft Excel required; pivot table experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and proactively resolve issues
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, rounding, and time conversions
