Position: 911 Telecommunication Officer

Applications are now being accepted to fill full-time opening(s) in the 911 Telecommunication Division of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. This is a full-time, non-sworn 911 Telecommunication Officer position under the direction of the Sheriff and the general supervision of the 911 Administrator. To be considered, applicants must complete the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board form DJ-LE-330 as well as the release of information form.

Job Description

Duties consist of a wide variety of communications-related tasks including reporting for work in a regular and predictable manner, answering administrative, non-emergency and emergency 9-1-1 calls, tracking status of emergency services units, providing information to Police, Fire, EMS and other emergency personnel, monitoring radio and teletype traffic, responding to direct-line building and fire alarms, answering calls from deaf persons using a telephonic device for the deaf, monitoring NOAA weather services, testing emergency personnel radio and paging system, maintaining knowledge of emergency communications devices, rules, procedures, ordinances and laws, and performing other assigned tasks.

All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with established policies and procedures. Individuals will be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as shift rotations dictate.

Qualifications

Requirements include U.S. Citizenship; 18 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent; valid Wisconsin driver’s license; no felony convictions; excellent communications skills including the ability to hear, speak, write and understand written, verbal and audio/visual media in English; ability to sit for long periods of time and work in an enclosed area; ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal orders and policies;

ability to mentally retain information on a short and long term basis and to think and react quickly demonstrating sound decisions and judgments; courteous, professional public service attitude; keyboard skills with the ability to accurately type a minimum of 35 words per minute; experience with and knowledge of computers. Prior experience in law enforcement or EMS preferred but not required.

Must have ability to work under stressful situations, ability to multi-task, be self‑motivated and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Successful applicants will be subjected to oral interview, practical exam, medical, psychological and drug screenings, and extensive background investigation. Must complete a one year probationary period.

Salary

This is a full-time, hourly position starting at $21.59 per hour.
