Project Coordinator / Associate Project Manager – Utility Construction

We are seeking a Project Coordinator / Associate Project Manager – Utility Construction to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of utility construction projects. Working alongside Project Managers and Construction Coordinators, you will help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with industry standards and organizational best practices.

You will collaborate with project managers, construction teams, engineering, contractors, and business stakeholders to provide project controls, reporting, technical support, and coordination for large-scale gas utility construction initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers with the planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout of utility construction projects.
  • Provide field technical and project support for Construction Coordinators and Program Management teams.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, accruals, and performance metrics while preparing regular project status reports.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of project policies, procedures, documentation, and training materials.
  • Track project costs, schedules, risks, and resource utilization using project management information systems (PMIS).
  • Coordinate project activities across engineering, construction, contractors, and business stakeholders.
  • Support project integration activities throughout the project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and transition to operations.
  • Assist with quality management, procurement coordination, risk management, and stakeholder communications.
  • Apply project governance standards and organizational processes to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Participate in contractor coordination, performance monitoring, and issue resolution.
  • Support project schedule development and cost control activities while identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring project activities align with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide additional support to Program Management teams as needed for large-scale construction initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or another technical discipline plus two (2) years of technical experience
    , or five (5) years of project management, engineering, architectural, or technical experience
    .
  • Experience as a:
    • Construction Manager (CM)
    • Project Engineer II (PE2)
    • Senior Project Developer
    • Or similar project delivery role.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience utilizing Project Management Information Systems (PMIS), scheduling software, project controls, and reporting tools.
  • Understanding of:
    • Project scheduling
    • Cost management
    • Risk management
    • Procurement
    • Quality management
    • Project governance
  • Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting natural gas transmission, distribution, or utility construction projects.
  • Knowledge of gas utility operations, construction practices, and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with construction project scheduling, forecasting, and cost controls.
  • Familiarity with contractor management, field construction coordination, and project governance.
  • Experience utilizing enterprise project controls software and dashboard reporting tools.
  • Working knowledge of utility risk management methodologies and project lifecycle management.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or progress toward certification is a plus.
  • Experience working within regulated utility or energy environments.
Work Environment & Location
  • Location: Hybrid – Valparaiso, Indiana
    • Onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
    • Remote Monday and Friday (onsite attendance may increase based on project workload)
  • Engagement Type: Contract-to-Hire
  • Contract Duration: July 2026 – July 2027
  • Travel: Local travel as required for project and field support.
  • Position requires work in construction and utility environments that may include high noise levels, dust, confined spaces, temperature extremes, and other industrial conditions.
  • Collaborative team environment with opportunities to support major utility infrastructure projects and grow into advanced project management responsibilities.
