Position: Special Education Essential Skills Paraprofessional
Job Summary

To assist the classroom teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups.

Qualifications Requirements:

* 2 years of college experience; or associates degree; or

* Passed the Para Pro Assessment

* Completed 48 credit hours of college level classes

* Experience with Special Education Instruction, preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.

* Assists teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.

* Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.

* Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.

* Provides assistance and monitors progress of students receiving services.

* Provides accommodations for students based on their IEPs.

* Communicates with the general education teacher on any issues or special information about an individual student.

* Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.

* Perform other duties as requested by the Teacher of Record.
