Head Start Lead Teacher

Responsibilities

• Care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team.
• Plan and implement the curriculum in accordance with Merrillville Community School Corporation and Indiana Department of Education standards.
• Utilize Developmentally Appropriate Effective Practices as defined by the National Association of Young Children (NAEYC) and preparedness of school readiness.
• Be an active participant with the children, families and other members of the teaching team.
• Present a positive and professional image.
• Effectively participate on committees and work teams as requested.
• Ensure solid implementation of the educational program.
• Respond to routine inquiries or complaints.

• Minimum of Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood/Development is required.
• Three years of classroom experience with preschoolers in a licensed child care center based program, Head Start program, or public schools preferred.
• Spanish speaking preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical/medical/legal information.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or verbal form.
