Job Summary
The Director of Generation Planning will define, own, and deliver the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) and support large load portfolio modeling. The Director will provide regulatory support and oversee technical end‑to‑end modeling and creation of long‑term demand and supply plans, ensuring deliverables meet internal and regulatory needs and timelines.
Essential Functions- Oversee long‑term demand and generation capacity planning activities related to the IRP and large load deals.
- Supervise department personnel, manage the O&M budget, and communicate impacts to corporate O&M/CAPEX.
- Mentor, coach, and train direct reports to ensure ongoing development of the department.
- Partner with Finance, Transmission, and Gas Planning to integrate generation resource planning into the broader system planning ecosystem.
- Provide testimony in CPCN, IURC, and other filings to support load and energy supply needs.
- Coordinate testimony and forecasts for NiSource/NIPSCO’s participation in broader energy markets (FAC, GCA, RA, RTO, etc.).
- Respond to data requests for audits, regulatory proceedings, or government investigations, and participate in internal and external audits.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in the electric utility, gas utility, or related industry.
- Extensive experience with load forecasting, generation resource and capacity planning, and scenario planning.
- Experience leading a complex department covering market‑facing and regulatory processes.
- Ability to perform duties under normal, emergency, and contingency situations.
- Knowledge of regulatory processes, rates, tariffs, state and federal regulations, and gas operations.
- Financial competence in general accounting, levelized cost of energy, and net present value analysis.
- Knowledge of rates, tariffs, cost allocation, and billing functions.
- Outstanding understanding of regulatory processes, bulk power generation, wholesale markets, and renewable/thermal generation operating characteristics.
- Understanding of customer and market trends, capacity deal structures (self‑build vs purchase power agreements).
- Track record of delivering robust analytical planning deliverables from data collection, modeling, and scenario planning in a diverse stakeholder environment.
- Master’s degree in Economics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and handling tasks as required.
- Capable of performing repetitive eye/hand/foot coordination tasks.
