Job Summary

The Manager of Major Projects is responsible for the safe execution of a single mega project or a portfolio of several projects by adhering to project management guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure programs and projects are delivered on time and within budget. Accountable for project life cycle management, including scope & estimate development, project planning, business case development support, engineering deliverables, regulatory testimony support and long range planning.

This position relies on capable, integrated leadership skills and the ability to successfully collaborate with stakeholders, including engineering, project controls, supply chain, environmental regulatory, strategy, internal engineering, architect engineers, accounting, operations, contractors and more. The Manager of Major Projects will assist in assembling and filing regulatory responses concerning capital project development, capital project execution, and regulatory recovery with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

The Manager will be a proactive leader who integrates and collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. Highly developed organizational leadership, communication, and technical skills are required. The Manager will staff, plan, direct, control and be responsible for the execution and control of assigned projects to ensure the desired success criteria is achieved.

This position will report to an organization that is primarily focused on the execution of new generation projects, but this group also executes other large, complex projects such as synchronous condensers.

• Provide supervision for Project Managers, Assist Project Managers, Project Engineers, and others assigned to project development and execution.
• The Manager will share responsibility for selection, training and evaluation of personnel with a peer. Assign personnel and resources to effectively execute projects.
• Manager will help coordinate and support data collection and analysis for timely and accurate regulatory filings.
• Manager will coordinate routine project updates with Project Controls. Assure Project Managers provide complete and accurate updates and forecasts, and that project risks are identified and properly managed.
• Manager will analyze individual and consolidated reports to monitor progress and performance, identify and respond to developing issues for concern or opportunities.
• Maintain and update the project management policies, procedures, and assets.
• Provide visible leadership and support to maintain a safe work environment.
• Manages to meet projects performance requirements and deliverables. Select contractors or internal crews based on experience and capabilities to assure expectations for safety, quality, environmental compliance, and productivity are maintained.
• The Manager tracks and reports key project performance indicators across the portfolio of projects and provides executive updates on individual projects and the portfolio in aggregate.
• The Manager will develop and maintain initiatives to assure Customer Value objectives are met throughout the life cycle for projects.
• The Manager will fulfill the business case for larger projects.
• Provide visible leadership and maintain high standards for projects. Perform field inspections and safety observations to support Project Managers and assure high standards are maintained.
• Maintain a working familiarity with projects and maintain customer relationship with parties or communities impacted by projects.
• Expand department proficiency and versatility in project management processes, tools, and techniques to tailor the PM tools to the specific needs of the Project Managers.
