Substitute Nurse

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate Degree (BSN Preferred)
• Current Indiana License
• CPR Certification Preferred
• Skill in developing effective communication with students, staff and parents
• Skills in administrative responsibilities

• Provide general nursing care to students and staff.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
• Keep daily medical records of students.
• Communicate with parents/guardians concerning daily health concerns and visits to nurse.
• Supervise the dispensing of prescriptions to students.
• Observe patients and report adverse reactions to medication or treatment.
• Treat minor wounds and abrasions.
• Serve as a resource person on health issues.
• Provide follow-up evaluations on students as required.
• Administer care including, but not limited to, calculating diabetic formulas; administering insulin; documenting seizure activity; tube feeding administration and care; and being able to identify different childhood illnesses.
• Inform staff of any health concern that will need additional care with the school building but outside the nurse's office.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building Principal, Nurse Coordinator, or Director of Student Services
