  • Lead a utility-focused electrical testing team supporting Eversource across the State of New Hampshire, overseeing relay testers, apparatus testers, and electrical testers performing apparatus testing, relay testing, and critical utility field services. This is a traditional Lead role offering approximately $190K base, a 4x10 schedule, ESOP participation, company truck, and relocation support for candidates willing to live in New Hampshire.

This role leads the testing and commissioning of electrical equipment within transmission and distribution substations and generation plants, making sure additions and modifications are installed, functional, and energized correctly. The Lead Engineer directs all aspects of electrical testing across protection relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and other substation equipment, and trains newer engineers and technicians in relay testing, equipment testing, and substation commissioning.

What

you'll do:
  • Review specifications and engineering drawings to understand substation purpose and functionality, and identify and resolve design errors
  • Manage and schedule installation and commissioning with subcontractors, internal personnel, and the customer per project requirements
  • Provide safety analysis and proper equipment isolation procedures
  • Develop day-to-day outage plans for customers
  • Build detailed test procedures and sign-off sheets for each piece of equipment
  • Monitor construction and stay available to address technical questions during construction, installation, and testing
  • Service newly designed and experimental equipment, instilling customer confidence
  • Assist field crews and dispatch in developing switching to properly sequence in equipment, with proper hold points for testing
  • Directly witness or perform critical tests such as DC functional trip testing prior to energization and in-service
  • Direct crews during critical work junctures, typically during final commissioning and through initial energization
  • Acknowledge substation modification as complete and functional, and formally turn it over to dispatch
  • Support several capital projects at once, rotating among jobs to review test results, monitor work, and anticipate problems
  • Work extended hours near project completion as control schemes are functionally tested and equipment is energized
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, with awareness of customer needs, preferences, and time and budget constraints
  • Support estimate development for client proposals and contribute to business development
  • Develop standard testing documentation and training procedures, and maintain all project documentation including certifications and calibration records
What you'll bring:
  • A minimum of 8 to 20+ years of testing and commissioning experience
  • In-depth understanding of three-phase power systems and of protection and control schemes and their implementation
  • In-depth experience with relay test sets across vendors including SEL, GE, Beckwith, ABB, and Basler, plus electromechanical relays
  • In-depth understanding of equipment testing: circuit breakers, transformers, circuit switchers, MOABs, CTs, PTs, batteries and chargers, transfer switches, line tuners, wave traps, and carrier relays
  • Experience executing in-service power measurements (load checks)
  • Experience leading crews to test and commission new and modified substations, including equipment isolation/restoration and complex circuit cutovers while mitigating inadvertent operations
  • Experience with rotating machinery, including generators and excitation systems
  • Experience testing previously programmed RTUs locally and remotely to system operators
  • Experience with SCADA, RTU, and DFR systems
  • Knowledge of programming and testing protection relays from GE, SEL, Alstom, Schneider, Siemens, and ABB, including macros for automated relay testing
  • Ability to obtain NICET certification or equivalent
