Position: SENIOR ENGINEER

The State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation Bureau of Bridge Maintenance is hiring a Senior Engineer (Position #20043).

Location:

7 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH.
Salary: $37.22 per hour – $51.07 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Bureau Administrator in planning, directing, and supervising all activities of Bridge Maintenance, including developing, implementing, and monitoring Bridge Maintenance programs.
  • Conduct research related to the maintenance, repair, and replacement of state‑owned bridges, the installation of temporary bridges, and the repair and widening of existing bridges to eliminate traffic hazards.
  • Develop, prioritize, and compile work schedules for future projects; review project status; provide technical advice; recommend repair methods; and coordinate repairs with other bureaus and agencies.
  • Prepare and analyze operating budgets for the Bureau Administrator’s review; approve and monitor Bureau expenditures.
  • Supervise equipment inventories, draft budgets, recommend needs and specifications, and oversee procurement of Bureau equipment.
  • Maintain, analyze, and generate reports of Bureau repair activities, performance measures, and integrate activities into management systems.
  • Provide bridge maintenance support to other bureaus, agencies, and state municipalities, including providing estimates, presentations, and coordination of repair work.
  • Direct, supervise, and implement Bureau bridge design and repair standards and assure quality control and safety standards.
  • Resolve personnel matters as directed by the Bureau Administrator and coordinate overall training of engineering and supervisory staff.
  • Secure all required project‑related environmental and historic permits and clearances from federal and state agencies.
  • Respond to emergency situations at any time to provide engineering and technical direction and advice regarding bridge repairs, temporary bridge design and installation, and construction projects to subordinates, state and municipal officials; act as the Department bridge liaison for Emergency Management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering plus a Master of Business Administration.
  • Experience: Three years in civil engineering after Professional Engineer licensure.
  • OR Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering;
    Experience: Five years in civil engineering after Professional Engineer licensure.
  • OR Education: Associate’s degree in civil engineering technology;
    Experience: Seven years in civil engineering after Professional Engineer licensure.
  • License/Certification: Valid driver’s license;
    Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards set by the hiring agency.

  • Must obtain a Licensed Professional Engineer in New Hampshire within 12 months of hire.
