Staff Accountant

The Law Family Companies is a 6th generation family-owned and operated business dedicated to providing logistics solutions in the Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont areas since 1882. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team in our Merrimack, NH office. This is a full-time, hands-on individual contributor role offering broad exposure to accounting, payroll, and operational processes across multiple companies. The position works closely with the Controller and finance leadership, supporting day-to-day accounting functions, payroll administration, monthly and year-end close activities, and cross-company financial initiatives.

Full Time – Mon thru Fri

Salary: $60,000-$65,000

• Work with the Controller and coordinate day-to-day accounting processes for part of the affiliated companies
• Assist financial management with month-end and year-end close activities for all entities
• Oversee real estate accounting, including billing, reporting, and collections
• Manage and complete payroll processing for all affiliated companies
• Support adjacent payroll-related finance functions as assigned
• Partner with finance leadership on insurance management, reporting, and renewals
• Prepare cash flow reporting and other ad hoc financial analyses
• Provide backup support for billing and accounts payable functions
• Serve as liaison between companies for special projects, operational needs, and financial support
  • Short-term:
    Provide temporary support to one of our companies, Law Motor Freight, during the implementation of an ERP solution (McLeod)
• Assist in documenting and improving financial processes across all entities
• Perform special projects and additional duties as assigned

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required (or 5+ years of general accounting experience in lieu of degree)
• Minimum of 3 years of general accounting experience required
• Experience in a multi-company or multi-divisional environment strongly preferred
• Prior experience in real estate or logistics industries preferred
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
• Experience with databases, data analysis, or SQL is a plus
