A Structural Steel Superintendent directs all field operations for structural steel erection on construction sites by managing the planning, scheduling, cost control, and quality control of construction activities and ensuring that all work aligns with project drawings and specifications. This position requires close coordination with the construction team, company management, contractors, suppliers, and the owner’s representatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Lead, coordinate, and manage crew activities to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to project timelines.
- Support the development and implementation of comprehensive project plans and schedules in collaboration with project management teams.
- Monitor daily operations with assigned disciplines, conducting thorough inspections to maintain quality, safety, and compliance standards.
- Review drawings, specifications, and erection plans to identify conflicts and proactively address constructability concerns.
- Plan and manage crane operations, deliveries, laydown areas, and material flow.
- Handle RFIs and NCRs as needed.
- Hire qualified applicants for construction/maintenance projects.
- Supervise all foremen and crews to maximize efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to all company safety and quality control programs and OSHA regulations.
- Report productivity and activities to the Corporate Office.
- Work overtime hours as necessary to meet project deadlines.
- Regular, punctual attendance is required.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Field Superintendent or General Foreman.
- Strong knowledge of steel erection methods, sequencing, rigging, and safety practices.
- Experience coordinating work in fast-paced, high-demand environments.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Must have OSHA 30.
- Climb and work at heights higher than 300 feet.
- Occasionally lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
- Push/pull weight up to 40 pounds.
- Excessive amounts of standing, sitting, bending, stooping, carrying, and pushing, and pulling weights.
- Work in extreme temperatures and a loud and dusty environment.
- Be able to wear all required safety equipment.
