Position: Structural Analyst III – New Glenn

Overview

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a fully reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed to carry people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond.

As a key member of the New Glenn team, you will orchestrate the design, development, and testing of fluid systems for the New Glenn Rocket and related spaceflight systems. You will shape all aspects of fluid systems design, operation, and project management to contribute to the team’s success. We are looking for someone to apply technical expertise, leadership, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities
  • Detailed hand calculations and finite element analysis of primary and secondary aerospace structures.
  • Documentation of stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings and documents.
  • Predicting, planning, and executing test campaigns; creating reports to support hardware qualifications.
  • Supporting other teams with inputs for configuration development and trade studies.
  • Mentoring and conducting analysis checks for designers and junior structural analysts in stress, stability, fracture analysis and standard processes.
  • Improving enterprise analysis capabilities by crafting automation tools for model creation, optimization, strength checks, and analysis report generation.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members from various disciplines, adjacent teams, and the shop floor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in engineering (MS preferred) with 3+ years of demonstrated experience with aircraft, spacecraft, and launch vehicle structures.
  • Proficiency with one or more analysis codes (reading/manipulating input files):
    Nastran, Optistruct, Ansys, Abaqus.
  • High proficiency with Simu Tech Ansys products or suitable alternatives (e.g., Abaqus).
  • Extensive understanding of FEM modeling techniques (boundary conditions, bolted connections, contacts, verification methods, etc.).
  • Experience with development and/or qualification testing (test requirements, setup, predictions, conduct/monitoring).
  • Knowledge of aerospace and/or launch vehicle structural requirements.
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (e.g., Bruhn, Niu, Roark).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fluid systems and geometry optimization methods.
  • Experience with metallic structural layout, analysis, testing, and qualification methods.
  • Process automation experience using scripting languages (MATLAB, Python, VBA, Fortran, etc.).
  • Experience developing inspection for structural flight and test readiness using risk characterization approaches.
  • Experience with analyzing/dispositioning non-conformances.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/Engineer Wildfire or newer) and CATIA V5.
Compensation and Benefits

Base pay range for WA applicants is $ – $. Other site ranges may differ. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid parental leave, short- and long-term disability, 401(k) with company match up to 5%, and an Education Support Program. Stock options are available for regular employees (at least 20 hours/week). Paid time off includes up to four weeks per year plus up to 14 company holidays.
