On the Kennedy Propellants and Life Support Services (KPLSS II) program on Kennedy Space Center FL, perform as a lead on more complex engineering assignments. Perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, development, design, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse electronic/mechanical equipment and systems and generally as a lead of a design, analysis or review team on more complex engineering assignments.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform a range of design development, analysis or review tasks independently.
- Responsible for complete designs, analyses, or design reviews.
- Generate complete design specifications for more complex projects.
- Generate complete pressure vessel/system certifications reports for the most complex projects involving pneumatics and propellant systems.
- Assess the mechanical integrity of process piping, pressure vessels, and system devices and components; as-built system drawings; data collection; and the development & field checking of drawings for each system, as directed.
- Perform calculations/analyses verifying compliance to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code including finite element analysis and fracture mechanics.
- Understand process piping systems, industrial valves, regulators, and pressure relief devices. Must be able to identify each of these devices along with their schematic symbols, drawing methodology, and formats.
- May provide training to less experienced engineers.
- Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
- Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.
- Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
- Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
- Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
- Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
- Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies.
- Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
- Perform all other position related duties and responsibilities as directed. Responsible for complete designs, analyses, or design reviews.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related scientific field and at least 7 years of job-related experience or equivalent. Excellent communication and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. The position may require the ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software. Position may require travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). US citizenship is required for restricted area access. A driver's license is required to independently travel onto and around KSC property.
Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive experience with Propellants and Life Support Operations on Kennedy Space Center FL. Local candidates. No relocation allowance provided.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Most positions involve work typical of office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must posses planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Some positions involve work in environments (e.g., shipboard, labs, outside locations, etc.)
where mechanical equipment, etc. are being installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
