- Analyze and evaluate environmental problems using scientific or engineering methods to prevent pollution
- Develop solutions to existing environmental problems and predict potential future pollution
- Review, evaluate, and interpret Federal, State, and local environmental regulations
- Determine regulatory applicability and impact on facility environmental programs and identify compliance requirements
- Evaluate solid wastes generated by KSC, USSF, and other entities for classification and regulatory requirements
- Support proper transport, recycling, treatment, and disposal of waste materials
- Develop contract requirements for specialized environmental studies, reports, waste recycling/treatment/disposal, contamination investigation, remediation, and alternative environmental technologies
- Coordinate shipments of waste materials for disposal or recycling in accordance with DOT, RCRA, TSCA, and other requirements
- Function as Site Supervisor for post-emergency spill cleanup and first responder operations-level responses to waterborne hazardous-substance spills
- Prepare environmental reports, studies, procedures, handbooks, and internal operating instructions
- Ensure safe operation and management of by-products, including hazardous wastes
- Manage waste segregation, containerization, handling, and emergency response consistent with company and site-specific procedures
- Support NASA through the NASA Environmental and Medical Contract at Kennedy Space Center
- Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation
- U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanency is required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or related scientific discipline with eight years of directly related work experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations and rules regarding waste management, transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and emergency response and post-emergency response cleanup from releases of hazardous substances (OSHA HAZWOPER)
- Obtain DOT HAZMAT employee certification within 90 days of employment and biennially thereafter
- Obtain RCRA Hazardous Waste/TSDF worker certification within six months of employment and annually thereafter
- Obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification within one month of employment and annually thereafter
- Mathematical skills and ability to read, analyze, and understand written information including regulations
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Possess valid driver’s license and be eligible for clearance at a federal facility
- Successfully pass an occupational health physical
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to thrive in a team atmosphere
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds while sometimes wearing PPE and working outdoors in all weather conditions
Demonstrates expertise in environmental problem analysis, regulatory compliance, and waste management practices. Proficient in developing solutions for pollution prevention and managing hazardous materials in accordance with federal and state regulations.
