At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
This is a hands-on role which requires strong communication, engineering fundamentals, and the ability to make products. Members on this team are expected to operate with a rapid iterative development mindset.
Responsibilities May Include- Collaborate with engineering teams during design, development, and delivery of hardware.
- Collaborate and work cross-functionally alongside planner/scheduler team members to drive accurate, on-time delivery of complex engineered products and tools to internal customers.
- Champion the build process with internal customers, including challenging requirements and managing manufacturing plans for development hardware and tooling.
- Provide guidance on design for manufacturing, build requirements, manufacturing process sequencing, interpretation of engineering requirements related to industry standards, GD&T, materials, and inspection.
- Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing of complex parts and assemblies.
- Author work order instructions, including identification of key processes and concise outline of manufacturing order-of-operations.
- Balance contribution of technical details (where beneficial) with simplification of process and instructions (streamline downstream manufacturing requirements) – it is expected this role will make rigorous use of both such strategies.
- Identify key manufacturing processes and capabilities to support critical schedules.
- Define and support repair and rework activities.
- Design tooling and fixturing for ease of manufacturing.
- Engineer solutions, including taking ownership of flowing mid-build requirement updates to the team, as required.
- Hands-on contribution to manufacturing and development efforts, as required.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering.
- 8+ years in manufacturing environment for complex products, such as: aerostructure, space systems, aerospace, avionics subsystems, aircraft assemblies, medical device, semiconductor equipment.
- Experience with PLM and MES enterprise products.
- Experience authoring work order instruction, SOPs, process flow maps, or similar.
- Working knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes (machining, welding, waterjets, coatings, additive manufacturing, precision clean, assembly, inspection, metrology, etc.), including how to evaluate relative applicability for a given scenario.
- Experience planning the sequencing of various manufacturing process(es) to produce feature-rich detail parts and/or complex subassemblies.
- Demonstrated success in constantly evolving environment.
- Able to take on challenges with incomplete information and pivot to drive progress.
- Work well in a collaborative team environment.
- Eager to jump in and manufacture as the need arises.
- Consistent track record of manufacturing experience directly related to part machining.
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working…
