Role OverviewThis role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single‑configuration, heavy‑lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low‑Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human‑capable.
As part of a dedicated team, committed to pushing the boundaries of launch and recovery, you will support at‑sea space hardware recovery operations. Your responsibilities include planning, managing, and operating complex recovery systems from activation through ongoing operation, providing technical and operational support for Blue‑Origin marine assets and ground‑support equipment, and performing hands‑on work with New Glenn flight hardware.
Shift DetailsA shift:
Monday – Friday 6 am – 2:30 pm
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Provide independent technical contributions to the team on relative fields
- Mentor team members to produce a culture of learning and advancement
- Develop and implement the best shop practices
- Recovery vessel and GSE system fabrication, operation, and preventative maintenance, including:
- Fabrication, routing, and testing of high‑pressure tubing
- Installation and checkout of wire harnesses and instrumentation
- Machine shop equipment operation and maintenance
- Performing tests and maintenance per written procedure
- Review and suggest improvements to authored procedures and work orders
- General troubleshooting of instrumentation, mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems
- Support New Glenn program offshore recovery operations
- Ensure vessel’s mission readiness by following established checklists and procedures
- Follow complex technical sequences and operations while adhering to Blue Origin policy and procedures to ensure a safe operational environment
- Support Launch Vehicle processing, testing and validation of New Glenn flight hardware and associated ground systems
- Safely work with hazardous chemicals, high‑pressure systems, and machinery
- Work with engineers on GSE design concepts, improvements, and development tests
- High School diploma or GED
- 0‑2 years in an aerospace, marine, or other relevant field
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre‑employment and random drug testing as well as a DOT Physical
- Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Must be willing to work on ocean‑going vessels for extended periods of time (up to 30 days)
- Must be able to work in extreme environments including cold, heat, wind, rain, and the open ocean
- Position will require heavy physical exertion such as climbing stairs and ladders, carrying heavy objects, and possibility of working at heights or in confined spaces
- Proficient in the use of computer programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and familiarity working with tablet/digital‑based applications
- Marine offshore or salvage operations experience
- Previous experience working on or recovering launch vehicles or aerospace hardware
- Familiar with the use of precision calibrated tooling (micrometers, torque wrenches, calipers, volt meters, etc.)
- Familiarity with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, hydrostatic testing) and pressurized system safety
- Demonstrated ability to work with:
- High‑pressure gas systems (GN2/GHe)
- Instrumentation and control systems
- Test, flight, and safety‑critical hardware
- Standard mechanical tools and fabrication shop equipment
- Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes, forklifts, scissor lifts, and personnel lifts, or other industrial equipment
- Experience with TIG/MIG, Orbital welding processes
- Experience with high‑voltage AC/DC electrical systems and PLC troubleshooting
- Experience with hydraulic systems
- Understanding of best practices related to 5S and FOD elimination
- Ability to read and interpret drawings – GD&T per ASME Y14.5M‑1994 standard
