Position: Large Volume Metrologist - D Shift

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Large Volume Metrologist

In this role, you will be responsible for performing high‑accuracy dimensional measurements in support of rocket manufacturing, assembly, and integration operations. You will work with state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation and metrology software to ensure our hardware meets the precise tolerances required for safe and reliable spaceflight.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform large volume metrology measurements using laser trackers and other precision instruments in a manufacturing and assembly environment
  • Operate and configure metrology instrumentation within Spatial Analyzer (SA) as the primary software platform
  • Tie multiple instruments together within SA to create unified measurement networks across large work spaces
  • Execute Unified Spatial Metrology Networks (USMNs) and relationship fits to optimize measurement accuracy across instrument setups
  • Perform best‑fit alignments, nominal comparisons, and geometric analyses using SA toolsets
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings with a thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Follow and execute written Measurement Procedures (MPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) with strict attention to detail
  • Perform operational checks, calibration verifications, and health assessments on metrology instruments prior to and following use
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to support hardware build and inspection milestones
  • Document measurement results, generate reports, and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders
  • Maintain metrology equipment in accordance with handling, storage, and preventative maintenance requirements
  • Support continuous improvement efforts for metrology processes, tooling, and procedures
Working Conditions
  • On‑site, full‑time position in a manufacturing and/or integration facility
  • May require working in elevated areas, confined spaces, or around rotating equipment with appropriate PPE
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet program milestones
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience in large volume metrology or a related precision measurement field
  • Proficiency in Spatial Analyzer (SA) software
  • Demonstrated experience operating laser trackers (Leica preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T and the ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
  • Experience performing instrument network solutions (USMN) and multi‑instrument tie‑ins within SA
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and work instructions with a high degree of accuracy and repeatability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced manufacturing environment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (required for access to export‑controlled technology)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Leica laser trackers (AT960, AT403, or similar)
  • Familiarity with laser scanners, laser radar, and photogrammetry systems (e.g., V‑STARS)
  • Experience with additional metrology software including:
    • Poly Works (Inspector / Modeler)
    • VXelements
    • V‑STARS
    • Leica Cyclone
  • Exposure to aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing environments
  • Experience supporting large‑scale structure assembly and alignment (tooling, fixtures, airframes, pressure vessels, etc.)
  • CMSC certification or equivalent metrology training/credentials
