The Role

We are looking for an energetic, responsible, and highly motivated individual to join our team as Fitter. This is an exciting role working jointly within the Transport and Trail Crew departments, which form an integral part of the wider Bike Park team.

The role can be flexible as a full or part time role and we are able to accommodate a Monday to Friday or Thursday to Tuesday working week.

  • You will be responsible alongside the transport team, for keeping our fleet of Transit Minibuses and trailers operational
  • Works include all basic remedial vehicle repairs, alongside preventative maintenance
  • You will ensure our fleet are in the best condition possible, both internally and externally
  • You must be able to work outdoors in all weathers and often difficult conditions
  • You will work with a variety of hand tools and the work can be physically demanding
  • You will be a strong team player yet remain self-motivated and have a a positive attitude toward workload. In this role, you must be comfortable with lone working at times and have a proactive approach to all tasks.

You will share your passion, ideas and suggestions with your team and work together to keep Bike Park transport service world class.

Bike Park Wales is the UK’s number one mountain bike facility located at Merthyr Tydfil on the edge of the Brecon Beacons national park just 25 minutes north of central Cardiff. The park is now an internationally recognised destination and a mecca for mountain bikers, descending on Mynydd Gethin, a 491-metre summit.

Bike Park Wales is a successful business which has established itself as a destination for many mountain bikers. Responsibilities in the role will include:

  • Showing excellent awareness of health and safety throughout all aspects of work and following safe working practices, communicating to managers any H&S concerns are identified and require action or attention
  • Willing to learn and develop skills and knowledge
  • Willing to engage with our visitors, customers and helping when needed, delivering an exceptional standard of customer service
  • Willing to work with a wide range of plant machinery

Key Skills include:

  • Proven mechanical experience within the commercial vehicle sector
  • A good understanding of the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness
  • To complete job cards with accurate description of work completed
  • Ability to carry out a largely manual role
  • The ability to carry out a variety of general vehicle maintenance tasks
  • A proven knowledge of maintaining Minibuses to a high standard
  • A good understanding of the DVSA guide to maintaining road worthiness
  • The ability to use welding equipment
  • Sharp problem-solving skills
  • The ability to use a range of power tools and lifting equipment

Desirable skills include:

  • Hold a full clean driving licence with category D1 D entitlement
  • Hold a valid tachograph card
  • Previous experience of working as a passenger driver
  • Comfortable working with members of the public
  • Familiar with using a digital tachograph
  • DBS certificate or we will obtain one
  • Have or be willing to obtain IRTECH qualification
  • Able to conduct LOLER inspections on equipment
