Job Summary

DES and DERS are seeking an experienced leader to supervise an operations team, set priorities, and coordinate work activities with other supervisors. The position provides leadership, coordination, and supervision of daily activities, with work environments that may be in-office or virtual and may involve geographically dispersed teams. The role supports continuous improvement through business methodologies. Travel will be required for state business.

Job Duties
  • Plan and coordinate daily work assignments according to management principles; provide direction and instructions to staff to ensure efficient operation of programs in the area of responsibility.
  • Perform recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management functions to maintain an effective and efficient work environment.
  • Attend and conduct meetings to disseminate information and ensure program compliance.
  • Design and implement procedures to ensure office operations and services are effective and efficient to meet program goals; confer with management to resolve issues.
  • Collect, compile, analyze, and submit data and correspondence timely to all Division/Administration requests.
  • Interpret rules, regulations, and policies, including EEO and affirmative action mandates governing DOL/DES programs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge in: Labor market information and in-demand industries and occupations; interviewing techniques, transferable skills, assessment tools, and strategies; social, cultural, and economic conditions affecting the served populations and areas; special needs of minority groups and disadvantaged persons; community resources and support services.
  • Skill in: Leadership and developing confidence, competence, and potential of staff and teams; customer service, teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal communication (including de-escalation and conflict resolution); written and verbal communication including public speaking and presentation; research and interpretation of policies and procedures; proficiency with MS Office, Google, and data systems.
  • Ability to: Learn and apply applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; lead professional staff in delivering employment and employer services; work effectively independently and as part of diverse teams; develop a positive, productive, motivated team-oriented culture; use labor market information and related data to assess, advise, refer, prepare, and match job seekers; address barriers to employment and engage education and training resources;

    track job seeker progress and match to employment opportunities; travel within assigned areas and to statewide meetings; promote ARIZONA@WORK verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
Selective Preference(s)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience or four (4) years of public contact/customer service work experience, employment counseling, or recruitment.
  • Depending on assignment: experience working with farm workers, refugees, and veterans; service-connected disabled veteran with other than a dishonorable discharge.
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Subject to a search of the Child Protective Services Central Registry and the Adult Protective Services Registry.
  • Must hold a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card to work with children and vulnerable adults.
  • Must pass a secondary background check to obtain badge access to ARIZONA@WORK locations.
  • Successful completion of background and reference checks; employment contingent upon completing required steps and accommodations as needed.
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
