The Structural Steel Estimator is a key member of our team, responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and well‑documented cost estimates for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and industrial projects. This role demands a results‑driven, detail‑oriented professional who combines precision with strategic thinking in a fast‑paced environment. • Prepare detailed estimates for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and industrial projects with accuracy, consistency, and accountability.
  • Analyze architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop complete scopes of work.
  • Perform takeoffs, quantity surveys, and pricing for materials, labor, equipment, erection, and subcontracted work.
  • Evaluate project risks, constructability issues, schedule impacts, and long‑lead items early in the estimating process.
  • Collaborate with project management, field leadership, detailing, and vendors to ensure estimates reflect real‑world execution.
  • Solicit, review, and analyze vendor and subcontractor pricing to ensure scope alignment and value‑driven decisions.
  • Develop clear, organized bid proposals, inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications that support clean project handoff.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical cost data, and pricing models to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Participate in bid reviews with leadership, providing strategic input on pricing, margins, and competitiveness.
  • Support project handoff meetings and remain engaged post‑award to ensure continuity and accountability.
  • Respond promptly to internal and external customers with professional, solution‑oriented communication.
  • Document estimating assumptions, scope decisions, and risk considerations clearly and thoroughly.
Requirements
  • 3‑5+ years of experience estimating structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or industrial steel projects.
  • Proven dependability and motivation to take ownership of estimates from start to finish.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes, erection means and methods, and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings and specifications (AISC, AWS).
  • Experience with quantity takeoffs, pricing development, and scope analysis.
  • Familiarity with project schedules, coordination requirements, and construction sequencing.
  • Knowledge of general construction contracts, bid procedures, and risk assessment.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, Tekla, Foundation, and estimating software/tools.
  • Detail‑oriented mindset with the ability to maintain a big‑picture, profitability‑focused view.
  • Strong technical understanding of structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and industrial steel construction.
  • High attention to detail balanced with the ability to assess overall project strategy and risk.
  • Effective communication—verbal, written, and digital—with internal teams, vendors, and trade partners.
  • Analytical problem‑solving—identifying gaps, conflicts, and opportunities within bid documents.
  • Organizational strength—managing multiple bids simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Teamwork and collaboration—working seamlessly across departments to support project success.
