Project Engineer
This role supports a team of assistant and lead project managers on a large-scale data center project, with a primary focus on the electrical scope of work. The Project Engineer manages design changes, documentation, and project controls while collaborating closely with the construction team to keep the project on schedule, within budget, and aligned with technical and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Track construction contract design changes and updates to ensure all stakeholders work from the latest documents.
- Monitor overall project construction progress and maintain accurate job cost tracking to support financial control and forecasting.
- Coordinate design changes within the construction team to maintain alignment between field operations, engineering, and project management.
- Assist with the preparation of change orders and maintain a detailed project change order log.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the overall project schedule, including updates and progress reporting.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of submittal logs and Requests for Information (RFI) logs.
- Prepare project submittals and submit clear, well-documented written RFIs to the client.
- Maintain extensive document controls, ensuring accurate filing, version control, and distribution of project documents.
- Read, interpret, and analyze construction schedules to identify impacts, constraints, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support job cost tracking activities, including cost coding, reporting, and variance analysis.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, field leadership, and subcontractors to manage multiple priorities and resolve issues promptly.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the successful delivery of the project.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a Project Engineer position.
- 2+ years of Project Engineer experience on semiconductor or data center projects.
- Experience supporting data center and/or semiconductor construction projects.
- Electrical construction experience, preferably with an electrical subcontractor.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction schedules.
- Extensive document controls experience, including logs for submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Working knowledge of job cost tracking and cost control processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, and related tools).
- Proficiency with Bluebeam for drawing review, markups, and document management.
- Working knowledge of medium- to high-voltage electrical construction concepts.
- Strong project engineering and project management skills in a construction environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly to changing conditions, and make sound decisions.
- Excellent human relations skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Combination of field experience and formal education is highly valued.
- Leadership experience in a field environment is preferred.
- Estimator or Project Supervisor experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Access is a plus.
- Experience working with electrical subcontractors on large, complex projects is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute proactively to project teams and support both field and office functions.
Work Environment
This position is based on-site at a data center project in east Mesa, working primarily in a field-office and construction site environment. The typical schedule is a standard Monday through Friday workweek of approximately 40 hours, with some flexibility as project needs require. The role involves regular interaction with project managers, field supervisors, and trade partners, as well as frequent use of digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and other project management and document control systems.
The environment combines office-based tasks, such as document control and schedule analysis, with on-site coordination and meetings. A phone or allowance is provided to support communication needs. This is a salaried position, and relocation assistance is available for the right candidate. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $80000.00/yr. See EVP, will provide more benefits info during interview stage.
