Safety Coordinator

The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in building and sustaining a strong culture of health and safety across project sites. This position focuses on accident prevention, risk mitigation, and ensuring the well-being of employees, subcontractors, and the general public. Working closely with the Operations team and project leadership, the Safety Coordinator implements safety policies and programs, provides training and guidance to on-site staff, and promotes a proactive approach to safety on large construction projects, including multi-family and commercial developments.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and evaluate safety efforts of subcontractors and company employees on project sites to ensure compliance with established safety standards.
  • Discuss safety expectations, issues, and corrective actions with on-site subcontractor supervisory personnel on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate with project supervision to ensure appropriate personal protective equipment and safety materials are available and properly utilized.
  • Record and distribute documentation of all safety-related meetings, programs, safety pre-plans, inspections, correspondence, directives, and citations to the Safety Director for tracking and follow-up.
  • Coordinate responses to inspection reports from the company's insurance provider and ensure timely compliance with all requirements.
  • Conduct documented project safety and health inspections, identify hazards, and recommend corrective measures.
  • Investigate all injuries, incidents, and near misses, review accident reports, and coordinate corrective actions with company employees and subcontractor personnel.
  • Maintain current and accurate safety documents and literature, ensuring they are accessible to project teams.
  • Monitor the protection of the public by identifying and minimizing construction-related hazards around project sites.
  • Oversee the maintenance of adequate first aid supplies and ensure their availability and readiness on site.
  • Maintain and update the OSHA 300 log of injuries and illnesses in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Implement company safety policies, procedures, and programs consistently across all assigned projects.
  • Work directly with the Safety Manager, project managers, and superintendents to embed safety considerations into project planning and execution.
  • Coordinate compliance with Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and related environmental safety requirements.
  • Support and administer safety orientations, oversee substance abuse program compliance, and perform other on-site safety functions as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with all construction groups, including management, owners, trades, and subcontractors, to promote a safe work environment.
  • Perform other safety-related duties as assigned to support overall project and organizational safety goals.

Essential

Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and administer safety orientations and on-site safety programs.
  • Experience overseeing substance abuse programs and enforcing related safety policies.
  • Proven ability to investigate, document, and report injuries, illnesses, and near misses, and to coordinate corrective actions.
  • Strong capability to perform various on-site safety functions, including inspections, audits, and compliance checks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all construction groups, including management, owners, trades, and subcontractors.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying safety expectations, training staff, and reporting findings to leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage safety documentation, logs, and compliance records effectively.
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills to identify hazards and implement practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements, including maintaining an OSHA 300 log.
  • Experience with safety training, environmental health and safety (EHS), and safety management practices.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures, safety audits, and compliance processes in construction environments.
  • Ability to coordinate and support Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and related environmental safety measures.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in attending sites, meetings, and inspections.
  • Ability to thrive in a team setting and contribute positively to a collaborative safety culture.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Multi-family construction experience is preferred.
  • Experience managing safety efforts on large construction projects is preferred.
  • Prior field experience in construction environments is preferred.
  • Experience as a project manager on data center, mission critical, or high-tech projects is beneficial.
  • Background in commercial construction, project management, and construction management is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of project coordination, project engineering, and project scheduling in construction settings.
