Onsite Safety Professional
This onsite Safety Professional role supports ongoing operations at a Mesa facility, serving as a hands-on safety leader in the field. You will work closely with construction, fabrication, industrial, and manufacturing teams to prevent incidents, improve jobsite safety, and build a proactive safety culture. The position focuses on ensuring regulatory compliance, coaching employees, leading safety initiatives, and making a visible impact on overall project success.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, and all applicable regulatory standards, including OSHA, ADOSH, Cal/OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
- Conduct daily site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety observations to identify unsafe conditions, at-risk behaviors, and potential hazards.
- Exercise stop-work authority when you identify unsafe conditions, imminent hazards, or unsafe work practices, and ensure issues are resolved before work resumes.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and corrective guidance to employees and subcontractors to reinforce safe work practices and procedures.
- Assist management and supervision with hazard identification, risk assessment, and implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct routine audits of work areas, equipment, tools, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cranes, rigging, fall protection systems, and other site operations to verify safe conditions and compliance.
- Participate in pre-task planning activities and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), permits, and other safety documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct investigations of incidents, injuries, near-misses, and property damage, assist in determining root causes, and drive corrective actions to completion while verifying the effectiveness of implemented controls.
- Facilitate safety orientations, toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and regulatory compliance training to promote awareness and understanding of safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate and complete safety documentation, including inspections, observations, audits, training records, incident reports, corrective actions, and safety metrics.
- Monitor employees' use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure adherence to established safety requirements and procedures.
- Promote employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across the jobsite.
- Collaborate with site and corporate safety leadership to support broader safety programs and initiatives as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by site or corporate safety leadership and company executives to support overall safety performance.
Essential
Skills:
- 2–5 years of direct experience in occupational safety within construction, fabrication, industrial operations, manufacturing, or related work environments.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction certification.
- Demonstrated competency in fall protection, including selection, inspection, and use of fall protection systems.
- Demonstrated competency in confined space safety practices, including entry procedures and atmospheric monitoring concepts.
- Demonstrated competency in heavy equipment operations safety, including awareness of equipment hazards and control measures.
- Demonstrated competency in applicable construction safety practices relevant to industrial and construction environments.
- Experience working in construction safety, health and safety, or related safety-focused roles.
- Ability to conduct safety training and communicate safety expectations clearly to diverse field teams.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet customer-specific site requirements.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail when conducting inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
- Ability to exercise stop-work authority confidently and professionally when unsafe conditions are identified.
- Strong written skills to maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and records.
- Ability to build rapport and coach employees and subcontractors on safe work practices.
Additional Skills &
Qualifications:
- Board of Certified Safety Professionals credentials such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).
- OSHA 510 or 511 and/or OSHA 500 training.
- Competent Person training in areas such as Fall Protection, Excavation, Scaffolding, or Confined Space.
- Experience conducting incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Experience developing or reviewing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Experience delivering safety training in construction, fabrication, industrial, or manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with safety practices in industrial, fabrication, and manufacturing operations.
