Pima Medical Institute is seeking a Dental Assistant Instructor to support our dental program on a part-time/PRN basis at our East Valley campus in Mesa, AZ (957 S. Dobson Road). If you are looking for a flexible morning schedule to start your journey as an educator while keeping your active practice sharp, this role allows you to transition your chairside wisdom into classroom leadership.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Delivery & Student Mentorship:
Engaging Teaching: Develop and deliver interactive lesson plans using varied methods to accommodate diverse adult learning styles in both lab and classroom settings.
Student Assessment: Evaluate and grade student assignments, lab skills, and exams, providing constructive feedback within 72 hours of submission.
Office Hours & Support: Maintain face-to-face office hours to provide academic guidance, mentorship, and support to students.
Externship Supervision: Guide and monitor students during their clinical externships to ensure real-world practice readiness.
Academic Administration & Compliance:
Record Keeping: Complete required documentation, including attendance tracking, incident reports, early alerts, and student files.
Advising & Escalation: Address academic or behavioral concerns promptly, coordinating with the Assistant Dean of Faculty and Student Services Coordinator as needed.
Enrichment & Community: Arrange guest speakers, community service outings, and visits to local dental clinics or offices.
Facility & Equipment Upkeep: Conduct periodic assessments of lab facilities and dental equipment, recommending adjustments to align with modern dental assisting practices.
Safety & Institutional Participation: Enforce safety and security guidelines for students, staff, and visitors. Attend faculty meetings, advisory board discussions, workshops, and graduations.
QualificationsEducation: Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant program (or equivalent recognized training) OR a minimum of three (3) years of related dental experience for graduates of non-accredited programs.
Clinical
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of practical experience in Dental Assisting.
Clinical Mastery: Proficiency in four-handed and/or six-handed dentistry practices.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with state requirements for dental assisting educational programs.
Technical
Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and computer applications.
Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
Active credential as a Nationally Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), Registered Dental Assistant (RDA), or Licensed Dentist (DDS/DMD; CDA/RDA credentials not required for licensed dentists).
Current license, certification, or registration as required by local, state, or federal regulations for the dental assisting field.
Hiring Range: $20.80 to $24.96 per hour.
