Job SummaryTo serve as a support and resource liaison for junior high school students and their parents/guardians regarding school attendance related issues.
Key Responsibilities- Work with junior high school students and parents/guardians as appropriate regarding solution of attendance related issues
- Assist district security attendance specialist with truant students; make home visits when needed
- Maintain vigilance and assist in prevention of problems on campus
- Assist administrators in the enforcement of all school regulations and state laws
- Foster and enhance positive community relations in surrounding neighborhoods and businesses; assist in student control in surrounding neighborhoods as appropriate
- Assist at school events for student, crowd and traffic control when needed
- Submit required reports
- Serve as witness at disciplinary due process hearings or court cases when needed
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
- High School education or equivalent
- Proven experience working with youth and public
- Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate
- Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community
- Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc)
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) and interact with district personnel, students and parents/guardians
- Knowledge of Mesa Public Schools alternative educational facilities
- Knowledge of Arizona laws pertaining to schools and youth preferred
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents/guardians, district personnel and general public
- Ability and willingness to work split shifts when needed
Physical Requirements
- Most activities occur on school grounds (classrooms, offices, auditoriums, or sports fields).
- Interaction with students, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Duties often occur during school hours, though some events may require after-school or weekend availability (e.g., open houses, orientations, events).
- Time may be split between attending meetings and engaging with peers in less formal settings.
- Participation in assemblies, extracurricular events, or student government-related activities.
- May involve lifting light items (e.g., posters, folders, or setting up event materials)
