Role Overview
Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach SFTY 426 – System Safety Management at our Mesa, AZ campus.
The instructor will be responsible for delivering in‑person lectures, leading lab sessions, and assessing student performance throughout the course.
Candidates must be physically located in the United States while working for the university, including during training. Support for new adjuncts is available from all U.S. states except California, and not available for international locations except on U.S. military bases.
This course focuses on specialized techniques used in System Safety across all phases of a system’s life cycle.
Students will learn how the principles of systems engineering and sound management practices can be applied to predict potential failures and hazards in equipment, processes, and facilities.
The curriculum emphasizes the vital role of System Safety in preventing mishaps and aims to prepare students for careers in aviation, aerospace, and related fields.
- Doctor’s or Master’s degree in a teaching discipline, or a Master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, or Professional Engineer (PE) registration (Safety or Fire Protection Engineering preferred).
- Specific military or university training in Systems Safety Management or Engineering, or relevant experience detailed in professional industry background.
- For applicants holding degrees under related disciplines, demonstration of specific training and experience in System Safety is required.
