Job SummaryThe Adult Education Instructor is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, effective educational programs tailored to adult learners. They develop lesson plans, assess student needs, and provide instruction in areas such as literacy, GED preparation, career skills, or specialized subjects.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate knowledge of related subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials.
- Design and implement lesson plans tailored to adult learners’ needs and goals, ensuring course material aligns with educational standards.
- Deliver engaging and interactive lessons in literacy, GED preparation, ESL, or vocational skills.
- Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Maintain an organized and professional classroom setting.
- Track attendance, maintain accurate student records, and document progress.
- Stay updated on best practices and advancements in adult education.
- Assist with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
- Current Arizona teaching certificate (Adult Education).
- Proven experience teaching or training adult learners in educational, corporate, or community settings.
- Knowledge of adult learning and instructional techniques and tools (e.g., blended learning, online platforms).
- Background in the specific subject area (e.g., GED prep, ESL, vocational training) is preferred.
- Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish rapport and maintain a positive, respectful learning environment.
- Skilled in maintaining accurate records and managing multiple tasks and students effectively.
- Creative problem‑solving abilities to address classroom or individual challenges.
- Basic proficiency in office applications for preparing teaching materials and tracking records.
- Ability to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily works in classroom settings, community centers, or training facilities.
- May involve online teaching using virtual platforms and digital tools.
- Requires morning, evening, and occasional weekend availability.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and community partners.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
- May involve lifting and carrying teaching materials up to 25 lbs.
- Possible travel to off‑site locations for workshops, training sessions, or community outreach.
