Position: Student Services Analyst Sr (Advising Coordinator)

Job Summary

Student Services Analyst Sr (Advising Coordinator) – a full‑time, senior academic advisor role at Mesa Community College. The position reports to the Director of Academic Advising and oversees day‑to‑day operations of the Academic Advising Center, manages a high‑volume caseload, and leads student‑centered advising and retention initiatives throughout the student life cycle.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership (40%)
    • Manage the Academic Advising Center and supervise a team of professional advisors.
    • Coordinate and deliver targeted advising pathways, retention goals, and operational reports.
    • Develop long‑term retention strategies, data analytics, and policy initiatives.
    • Act as point of contact for faculty and staff on student engagement and comparative progress metrics.
    • Oversee budgeting, staffing, and technology implementation to support advising services.
  • Academic Advising (30%)
    • Provide one‑on‑one or group advising through in‑person, phone, virtual, or chat platforms.
    • Guide students in course selection, degree planning, transfer, career, and workforce pathways.
    • Detect and intervene with at‑risk students, coordinating support services and action plans.
    • Maintain accurate student data, prepare academic reports, and facilitate early‑alert processes.
  • Program and Event Coordination (15%)
    • Co‑manage retention workshops, orientations, and professional development events.
    • Develop and deliver training materials on study skills, time management, and career readiness.
    • Collaborate with campus partners on marketing and recruitment initiatives.
  • Data, Reporting, and Compliance (10%)
    • Ensure compliance with FERPA, federal and state regulations, and internal policies.
    • Collect, analyze, and report student success data to inform program improvements.
    • Prepare budget reports, grant monitoring, and institutional metrics.
  • Other Duties (5%)
    • Serve on college and district committees and represent the advising unit.
    • Perform additional tasks as directed by leadership.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in education, sociology, business administration or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Four years of progressively responsible experience in student services, advising, or related planning roles.
  • Desired Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling or related field.
    • At least three years of academic advising experience, including major‑specific advising.
    • Four years of experience implementing case‑management, retention, and persistence programs.
    • Proven success with student‑centered advising strategies that improve retention.
    • Leadership experience supervising academic advising teams.
    • Data‑analysis experience supporting student success initiatives.
    • Experience with People Soft and other advising tools.
    • One year of relevant MCCCD experience within the last two years.
