Position:
Preschool Teacher Assistant (Part Time) at Legacy Traditional Schools – East Mes and East Tucson campuses.

Position Overview

The Preschool Teacher Assistant will work with the lead teacher in planning daily activities for students. The assistant will supervise students, assist during meals/snacks, and provide general one‑on‑one attention as needed. They will help organize the classroom, clean up, and set up for the next day’s activities. The assistant is required to interact with children, pass out snacks/meals, assist in teaching about numbers, colors, shapes, and social skills, and provide feedback to the lead teacher regarding students' academic and social development.

Functions
  • Assist lead teachers in planning, developing, and implementing age‑appropriate curriculum.
  • Provide support to lead teachers in devising and delivering lesson plans on a daily basis.
  • Assist students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments such as reading stories, providing writing assistance, reinforcing language skills, numbers, alphabet, and computer learning programs, to practice and reinforce learning concepts and help students reach academic goals and grade‑level standards.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials (e.g., art projects, computer, language skills) to support and reinforce classroom goals and objectives.
  • Monitor individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (classroom, playground) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assist students during lunchtime, toileting, and washing activities.
  • Enforce cleanup activities after lunchtime by modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records (e.g., clean/bleach tables, sign‑in/sign‑out logs) to ensure availability of items and meet mandated requirements.
  • Perform general clerical tasks (e.g., laminating, making posters, making copies, bulletin boards, filing, newsletters) to help the teacher prepare instructional materials.
  • Provide an environment of comfort and security for young students through nurturing behavior.
  • Report observations and incidents related to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, rule violations, safety conditions, behavioral changes) to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Food Handler’s Card/Certification.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
  • CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Ability to interact positively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Six months or more experience working in an early childcare setting.

Background Checks
  • Must obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.

Physical And Travel Requirements / Work Environment
  • Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
  • Required to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
  • May require sitting for long periods, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and long periods of concentration.
  • Local and in‑state travel required.
