Position Description

The Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering Internship is designed to develop future engineers through hands-on experience in a production environment. This role emphasizes professionalism, teamwork, technical skill development, and practical application of engineering principles.

The intern will spend significant time on the manufacturing floor, working collaboratively with operators, department leads, production management, and engineering teams. In addition to daily support activities, the intern will have opportunities to lead or support focused engineering projects of varying scope and complexity that contribute to improving manufacturing operations.

Essential Responsibilities

• Execute assigned engineering projects and tasks independently within defined scope and schedule

• Provide hands-on support for manufacturing and industrial engineering activities, including process improvement, facility layout updates, and production support

• Contribute to design, manufacturing, and production activities as part of cross-functional engineering teams, and assist with implementing manufacturing fixtures, tooling, and process improvements

• Perform assigned work under the supervision of experienced engineers while taking responsibility for task completion and deliverables

• Support factory acceptance testing and equipment commissioning by assisting with equipment setup, adjustment, and first-run optimization alongside OEM field technicians and SRC engineers

Requirements

Position Qualifications

Required
- • Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program

• Completion of sophomore-level engineering coursework by the start of the internship

• Has interest in manufacturing and engineering

• Ability to work effectively in a hands-on, production-oriented environment

• Strong technical aptitude with a demonstrated willingness to learn and apply new concepts

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and accountability in academic or work settings

Desired
- • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment

• Ability to remain effective under changing priorities and time pressure

• Demonstrated ability to translate high-level objectives into actionable tasks

• Familiarity with CAD software (Solid Works, AutoCAD, Draft-sight)

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

• Demonstrated experience executing projects that require basic fabrication, and hands-on problem solving
