Position Overview

Mechanical Engineer will apply a solid foundation of HVAC engineering experience to solving increasingly more difficult assignments, managing priorities, leveraging known resources, and working with minimal direct supervision. The role includes working on existing products, new products, and undeveloped ideas that focus on system or subsystem solutions rather than component-specific problems. The engineer supports existing production products through VAVE and continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Design complete mechanical systems, products, or product families of large scope for customers, ranging from simple items to complex systems.
  • Direct, coordinate, support, or audit manufacturing and assembly activities to ensure products and systems meet engineering design specifications and customer expectations.
  • Research and analyze data such as customer proposals, drawings/specifications, applications, and manuals to determine design feasibility, considering cost, time, and other factors.
  • Predict test performance and analyze test data to assess viability and accuracy of developed products.
  • Investigate and solve problems that affect scrap, warranty/reliability, and product cost for new and existing products.
  • Apply stage-gate development methods, engineering tools, and industry standards to support design development.
  • Provide technical leadership for project teams, delegate work to mechanical designers, and develop testing methods and procedures.
  • Participate in and often direct hands‑on assembly or prototyping of engineering concepts and Alpha build products.
  • Communicate design intent through robust engineering specifications and guide mechanical designers for successful design execution.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and personnel policies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical degree.
  • 3+ years of experience using 3D CAD. AutoCAD, Inventor, or Solid Works preferred.
  • Ability to build relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Self‑motivated with minimal supervisory guidance.
  • Drive technical decisions and prepare technical and strategic issues for management decisions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for customers and cross‑functional teams.
  • Commitment to quality, LEAN, and continuous improvement.
Competencies
  • Solid mechanical engineering experience, designing components and systems with minimal oversight.
  • Experience with electromechanical components or subsystems.
  • Preferred experience on residential or retail air conditioning product design.
  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements with guidance.
  • Strong knowledge of drawing detailing, GD&T practices, and ability to detail component drawings independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tolerance stack‑up analysis and system tolerance stack‑up analysis with minimal oversight.
  • Practical knowledge of stage-gate development processes.
  • Experience handling moderately complex engineering issues and referring more complex issues to higher‑level staff.
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering principles related to the position, applied in practice.
  • Strong team‑player skills with ability to work well with others and support internal/external customer needs.
  • >5000+ hours experience using Solid Works or other 3D CAD packages.
  • >5000+ hours experience with PLM software (Enovia, Agile, or similar).
  • >500+ hours experience with FEA programs (Solid Works Simulation, ANSYS, or ABAQUS).
  • Demonstrated design engineering familiarity and capability with light senior engineering direction:
    • Complex machined parts
    • Plastic injection‑molded parts
    • Zinc and aluminum alloy die castings
    • Sheet metal stampings
    • Products/assemblies with consideration for Design for Manufacturability
Other Information
  • No supervisory responsibilities upon hiring.
  • Physical demands include walking, sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving over 50 pounds during work hours.
  • Full‑time position, 40 hours per week. Weekend and overnight work may be required.
  • Travel approximately 5–8 times per year, totaling 10–20 overnights.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States required.
  • Preferred experience:

3–6 years of practical work in related field and design/manufacturing of air‑conditioning and refrigeration products.
