About the Role
The Boeing Company is seeking a motivated collaborative Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineer to join the Composite Materials and Nondestructive Evaluation Team in Mesa, Arizona. The role involves working independently and in teams to apply materials and process knowledge across fixed‑wing, rotorcraft, and proprietary program platforms. The engineer will provide technical support for non‑destructive inspection of composites and metal structures, and will contribute to efficient production of world‑class aerospace products.

Position Responsibilities- Assist with or define requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes in engineering design, manufacturing and maintenance.
- Draft or produce engineering specifications and other documents to manage deployment of tools, equipment and processes.
- Interface across multiple engineering teams to align on inspection requirements, feasibility, design for inspection, method selection and data interpretation.
- Assist with certification and qualification of NDE equipment.
- Support NDE specialists in developing, qualifying and deploying new inspection processes (gauge R&R, PODs) including standardization, documentation and training.
- Develop and maintain proficiency in relevant NDE methods (Ultrasonics, Radiography, Eddy Currents, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant).
- Support root‑cause and corrective action for NDT‑related MRB to eliminate repetitive rework.
- Assess NDT evaluation technologies for new and existing programs and improve manufacturing process inspection.
- Compile reports documenting evaluations, results, interpretations and new procedures.
- Develop computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements and use project management tools to meet cost, technical and schedule requirements.
- Work with support from Principal/Senior NDE engineers to develop, certify, qualify and implement technologies across the enterprise.
- Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations and promote standardization across business activities.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions and incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN and quality principles into processes, design, work procedures and labs.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science or computer science.
- More than 1 year of experience in Nondestructive Evaluation.
- Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years’ experience or Master’s degree for Level 2;
Bachelor’s with 5+ years’ experience or Master’s with 3+ years for Level 3. - Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to convey technical material to individuals at all levels.
- Functional knowledge of ultrasonic inspection of composites (manual or automated pulse‑echo, through‑transmission, pitch‑catch, phased‑array).
- Functional knowledge of magnetic particle, penetrant and eddy current inspection.
- Functional knowledge of radiographic inspection.
- Knowledge of reference standard development and fabrication.
- Experience with robotics, 3D modeling, 3D printing, computed tomography (CT) and/or ultrasonic phased array.
- Experience working in an engineering or scientific lab.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
Level 2 – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Level 3 – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination.
Location and Work ArrangementsMesa, Arizona – 100% onsite. Export control compliance requires the candidate to be a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. (US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee or asylee).
RelocationRelocation may be provided to eligible candidates. Basic relocation will be offered to eligible internal candidates.
Pay and BenefitsCompetitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities. Summary pay range:
Level 2 – $91,800 – $124,200;
Level 3 – $112,200 – $151,800. Benefits include health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement plans, life and disability insurance, paid and unpaid time off, and additional programs dependent on location and collective bargaining agreements.
