Hiring Bonus
The Water Resources Department is excited to offer a hiring bonus for newly hired Electrical Controls Specialists I and II. Qualified hires may receive a $3,500 incentive after completing initial city probation and a successful performance evaluation.
Applications will be reviewed from Monday, April 20, 2026, and then weekly thereafter until all vacancies are filled.
Electrical Controls Specialist ISalary Range
: $65,880.88 – $92,983.49 annually
Under close supervision, this role performs or assists with electrical and instrumentation installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on equipment up to 15 kV and devices used to operate the City’s water, wastewater, and gas systems.
- Install, program, calibrate, and commission electrical/instrumentation devices such as variable frequency drives, level transmitters, flow meters, radios, and power monitoring equipment.
- Assist in startup, commissioning and troubleshooting of the process control system, including resolving communication and field variable problems.
- Coordinate and acquire materials and equipment for repairs and installations at facilities.
- Perform calibration and verification for the Arizona Corporation Commission on gas regulator stations and certify calibration for inter‑agency flow meters.
Must be willing to work overtime as required.
Use appropriate safety equipment and follow OSHA and NFPA 70E safety procedures.
Hazardous conditions may involve voltages up to 15 kV, natural gas, raw sewage, toxic chemicals, laser beams, and confined work areas.
Electrical Controls Specialist IISalary Range
: $69,165.62 – $97,620.22 annually
Performs skilled electrical and instrumentation installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on equipment up to 15 kV and devices used to operate the City’s water, wastewater, and gas systems, with limited supervision or independently.
- Install, program, calibrate, and commission electrical/instrumentation devices such as variable frequency drives, level transmitters, flow meters, radios, and power monitoring equipment.
- Interpret electrical and electronic system designs, plans, specifications, wiring schematics, and basic one‑line diagrams.
- Assist in startup, commissioning and troubleshooting of the process control system, correcting communication issues, field variable problems, or design engineering errors.
- Coordinate and acquire materials and equipment for repairs and installations at facilities.
- Act as a technical lead on new projects—including gas, water, wastewater facilities, pump stations, and plants—and review drawings, plans, specifications, and submittals from the City’s Engineering Department or consultants.
- Enforce compliance with City standards and technical specifications for utility projects.
- Provide technical and inspection assistance to City of Mesa Construction Inspectors.
- Assist Design Engineers or engineering companies with design criteria for process controls and electrical distribution projects.
- Perform calibration and verification for the Arizona Corporation Commission on gas regulator stations and certify calibration for inter‑agency flow meters.
- Create, modify, and update AutoCAD and/or PDF drawings for new and existing projects.
- Provide guidance and direction to Electrical Controls Specialists I and review their work for conformance and compliance.
May be subject to call‑out, after‑hours stand‑by duty for emergency repairs, and must be willing to work overtime as required.

Minimum QualificationsElectrical Controls Specialist I:
Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to a four‑year electrical apprenticeship or an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics, or a related field, plus three years of experience as a journey‑level electrician.
