Your Primary Responsibilities Include

Responsible for leading the evaluation and assessment of complex mortgage loan applications, ensuring alignment with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Serves as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on risk analysis and underwriting best practices.

Job Responsibilities
  • Thoroughly review and analyze complex loan applications, including borrower creditworthiness, income, assets, and property valuations, applying advanced judgment to mitigate risk.
  • Make high‑level underwriting decisions on approvals, counteroffers, or denials based on nuanced risk factors and long‑term portfolio impact.
  • Ensure all underwriting activities adhere to company policies, federal and state regulations, and investor requirements, and proactively identify compliance gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Act as a resource for junior underwriters and team members by providing training, guidance, and feedback to enhance underwriting quality and consistency.
  • Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and management to resolve complex issues, negotiate conditions, and maintain transparency throughout the loan process.
  • Anticipate and address challenges in the underwriting process by offering innovative solutions that meet business objectives while managing risk.
  • Stay informed on market trends, regulatory changes, and new product developments, and contribute to policy updates and process enhancements.
  • Perform special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in finance, business, or similar; OR associate degree and two (2) years of experience in functional area; OR high school diploma (or equivalent) plus four (4) years of experience in functional area.
  • Additional three (3) years+ of progressive experience in functional area.

Job Requirements
  • Proven skills and experience with mortgage underwriting functions.
  • Advanced understanding of multiple loan products.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office 365 and the following technology:
    Encompass.
  • Willingness to pursue continuing education, certifications, etc. as applicable to advancing in the organization.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to speak confidently.
  • An ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment where priorities change daily, and where employees wear many hats.
  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to think "outside the box" and prioritize tasks and decisions in a timely manner.
  • Self‑directed, yet effective working as part of a collaborative team.
  • Responsive and customer‑focused with a demonstrated use of professional judgment.

This role's annual base salary range is $99,000 - $126,000.
