The City of Mesa is excited to offer a hiring bonus for individuals hired as a Police Officer Recruit. Bonuses: $1,750 paid after 30 days of hire (or promotion to the Police Officer Recruit) and $1,750 paid upon completion of the Field Training Officer Program. Additionally, Police Officer Recruits with a Bachelor s Degree receive a $500 incentive upon completion of the Field Training Officer Program, and those with a Master s Degree receive a $1,000 incentive upon completion of the Field Training Officer Program.

Responsibilities / DutiesJoin Mesa Police Department to learn and perform the responsibilities of an entry-level Arizona peace officer, including:
- Interacting with a culturally and socially diverse population
- Employing discretion in solving problems, maintaining public order, preventing crime, enforcing laws and ordinances
- Conducting investigations, making arrests, issuing summonses/citations and warnings, and assisting the public
- Attending the Mesa Police Department Academy and completing Field Officer Training Program
- Performing related duties as required; work may involve personal danger and requires independent judgment
- Rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
After successful academy instruction and field training, a Police Officer Recruit may be promoted to Police Officer. This class is FLSA nonexempt.
Requirements / QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Graduation from High School or GED. Age at least 21 by graduation from the Police Academy. Vision requirements as outlined by AZPOST; driver s license;
United States citizenship.
Special Requirements: Background investigation and polygraph, medical evaluation for respirator use, pre-employment medical, psychological test battery, and drug screening. Pre-employment drug testing policy applies.
Substance Abuse Testing: Pre-employment, pre-placement, and random testing as per City policy.
Preferred Qualifications: Completion of college-level courses in criminal justice.
